Lincoln Police are investigating after a 68-year-old woman reported that she received a phone call from someone who said that they were with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The man told her that her son, who is incarcerated, could be released if she paid a $1,000 deposit for an ankle monitor. The woman followed the request and deposited the money in a ‘Coinme’ machine.
“We would again like to the stress the importance of verifying the validity of any request for money transfer before completing the transaction,” said LPD Captain Todd Kocian.
