There’s a chance that you may have received a suspicious text saying that you have a package that could not be delivered and to click a link. Lincoln Police also received that text on a city work phone.
“It’s a good example that this can happen to anyone at any time,” says LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas.
Thomas says there are some red flags to look out for.
- Text comes from a number you don’t recognize
- Bogus email address
- An illegitimate link
- Use of urgency to encourage you to click
- You’re not expecting anything
If you get a text you can “Report Junk” and then “Delete and Report Junk.” Thomas adds to “remain vigilant and hang up when in doubt.”
