Audit Finds Misuse of State Vehicles by Nebraska Parole Board Employees

By Chase Porter Jul 11, 2024 | 5:12 PM

Misuse of state owned vehicles by Nebraska Board of Parole employees is the focus of a new audit report released Thursday from Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley.

In the report, Foley says 12 employees of the Board of Parole made a combined 291 unapproved trips in state-owned vehicles, as shown through unreceived GPS data. Specifically, two employees were said to have charged work time for personal trips made in those vehicles.

Foley told KLIN News, one staff member used a state car to drive more than 200 miles to attend a retirement party.

Inappropriate use of a state-owned vehicle is classified as a misdemeanor under Nebraska law. Foley says the Parole Board will be responsible for disciplining its employees, and seeking any restitution the state may be entitled to.
