Lincoln’s Hazardous Waste Center was built on north 48th Street in 2017 and city officials say it has been a huge success. “Generally we’ve been seeing about 3,500 households per year and we’ve been averaging around 130,000 pounds of waste that we manage,” says Brock Hannish, the environmental health supervisor for the Lancaster County Health Department.
HazToGo is a drive-through household hazardous waste collection site. It’s available to Lincoln and Lancaster County residents year-round at no cost.
The facility accepts items like pesticides, lawn and garden chemicals, household cleaning products, turpentine, oil-based paint, pool cleaning chemicals, flea and tick powders, rodent poison, charcoal starter fluids vape products and items containing mercury.
For a full list of items, visit HazToGo.com. Hannish also tells KLIN News they are also preparing to expand the HazToGo operation in the next few months. “To include a reuse component whereby we’ll actually set aside reusable items that the public can get at no cost.”
A $1.3 million state grant will be used to build the onsite store where the household products can be obtained. Ground will be broken on that facility in November or December.
