Teenage drivers make up just 5% of licensed drivers on Nebraska roads, but are involved in about 14% of all reported crashes. Parents concerned for their young drivers can enroll them in an upcoming pro-active safe driving course returning to the Lincoln Airport for it’s second year.

B.R.A.K.E.S. (Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe) will be partnering with the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office and the Nebraska Safety Council to offer a series of free classes between July 20-21, 2024.

During the three hour course, students will learn crash avoidance skills, drop wheel recovery, how to manage driving distractions, panic stopping, and mastering car control and skid recovery. The organization says graduates of this program are 64 percent less likely to get into a crash within their first three years after completing the program.

So far in 2024, Nebraska has had 100 fatalities in 88 crashes, with a 80% of occupants not wearing seatbelts. B.R.A.K.E.S. was founded by NHRA drag racer Doug Herbert after his sons were killed in a tragic car accident.

Classes will be hosted at the Lincoln Airport (3401 W. Mathis St., Lincoln, NE 68524) on:
