170 Pounds Of Marijuana Found In Seward County Traffic Stop

By Tom Stanton Jul 9, 2024 | 6:14 AM

A Columbus man is in jail after Seward County Sheriff’s Deputies found 170 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle during a traffic stop on July 3.   The sheriff’s department says a deputy stopped a 2017 Chevy Malibu for a traffic violation on I-80 near the Milford exit.

During the traffic stop, the deputy became increasingly suspicious of criminal activity and asked for consent to search the vehicle.  The sheriff’s office says the driver denied permission to search the vehicle and a K-9 was deployed.

Investigators say a positive alert was given and the marijuana was found during a subsequent search. It was determined that the pot was headed for Elkhorn.  35 year old Ryan Marquart was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.  He was booked into the Seward County Detention Center pending further court action.

The sheriff’s office says this is the third big seizure of marijuana by deputies that was destined for Elkhorn in the last year.
