A Lincoln woman is accused of ramming three police cruisers Tuesday morning as members of the Fugitive Task Force tried to arrest her. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the officers knew Makaila Fryrear had an outstanding warrant and spotted her pumping gas at 44th and Cornhusker around 10:00 a.m.
“They attempted to take her into custody by boxing her vehicle in,” Houchin says. “She was able to get into the driver’s seat and rammed into the task force member’s vehicles and managed to escape.”
Houchin says a slow speed chase ensued and at 57th and Walker Fryrear rammed another task force vehicle. Her vehicle became disabled and they were able to take her and a passenger into custody. The passenger was found with methamphetamine and booked on drug charges.
Fryrear was taken to the hospital for non-life threating injuries. When she is released, Fryrear will be arrested on her warrant, which was for operating a vehicle to avoid arrest. In addition, she will be booked on several other charges.
One task force officer suffered minor injuries. One of the vehicles sustained $15,000 in damage.
