Lincoln Cleaning Up After Severe Storms

By Tom Stanton Jul 2, 2024 | 12:08 PM

Severe thunderstorms rolled through Lincoln late Monday night and left behind a lot of damage.  There were downed tree limbs and power lines and several businesses had flooding issues. The gas pump canopy at the Phillips 66 at 48th & Garland was toppled.

The storms moved through around 11:00 and a tornado warning was issued for Lancaster County and the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touchdown just south of Pioneers Park. Crews will be surveying damage on Tuesday.

The Lincoln Airport reported 3.24 inches of rain between 11 pm Monday 4:00 Tuesday morning.  Some parts of the county reported up to seven inches of rain, which flooded several roads.  The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says Watchman Stables at 1985 W. Rokeby Road had fences and a shed damaged by the storm, which allowed several horses to escape.

LSO says a possible tornado caused the damage.
