Severe Storm Topples Gas Station Canopy In Northeast Lincoln

By Tom Stanton Jul 2, 2024 | 10:38 AM

Jason Laessig owns the Phillips 66 at 48th and Garland and says he’s never seen the kind of storm damage he witnessed this morning.   “I’ve been in the business quite awhile and I have never seen a full canopy just lay on it’s side.”

Laessig tells KLIN News he’s was on the phone with contractors Tuesday morning trying to determine the best way to remove the toppled awning.  Despite the damage from the severe storms and the temporary closing of his store, he says there is some good news.

“There was enough of a gap that it laid on it’s side and didn’t clip the building and actually the electrical stayed in tact and as it was laying on it’s side, all of the lights under the canopy still worked.”

He also says the gas pumps were also spared from damage.
