A 45-year-old Lincoln man is out tens of thousands of dollars after falling victim to a scam. “He reported that in mid-May he struck up an online conversation and befriended an unknown female,” says LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas.
“Eventually, she convinced him to invest in a website believed to be an online trading platform.” Over the next several weeks the man invested $40,500. Thomas says his website account showed significant gains and that he more than doubled his money.
“However, when he attempted to withdraw the money, he discovered the website was fraudulent,” Thomas says. LPD says knowing and trusting the people you engage with online is extremely important.
