A hit-and-run driver didn’t go quietly when Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies stopped him following a crash Sunday night near Highway 34 and South 148th Street. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the Weeping Water man rear-ended a BMW around 7:15 p.m. and took off.

Houchin says a short time later deputies stopped the Chevy Impala for speeding and contacted 60-year-old Rodney Bottorff and smelled a strong odor of alcohol and burnt marijuana.  He says Bottorff made it clear that he was going to resist arrest.

“He came out and said you’re not going to arrest me and started to put his hands in front of him.” Houchin says Bottorff started to struggle and was taken to the ground by two deputies and handcuffed.

Bottorff taken to the Adult Detention Facility where his BAC was .191.  That’s more than twice the legal limit.  Bottorff was cited for aggravated DWI, resisting arrest, obstructing, possession marijuana and paraphernalia, speeding, open container and leaving the scene of an injury accident.

A 14-year-old in the BMW suffered head and neck pain but did not require hospitalization.
