No one was hurt after fire destroyed a detached garage in Denton around 12:30 Thursday morning. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the homeowner was working on his Mustang inside the garage when the newly installed engine caught fire.
“He tried putting the fire out by using two fire extinguishers, but was unsuccessful.” Houchin says the flames were visible from miles away and there were some small explosions reported. “It was burning pretty hot and pretty high.”
Damage to the garage and everything in it, including the Mustang, is estimated at $112,000. Houchin credited firefighters from Southwest Fire and Pleasant Dale for getting the fire under control in about 30 minutes.
