The “F” Street Community Center is bringing their annual Juneteenth Celebration back this weekend, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the center located at 1225 “F” St.
“Our event is completely free,” said “F” Street Community Center Spokesman JT Taylor. “We provide an educational opportunity as well on the significance of Juneteenth and how that day has affected the lives of all. We make sure that we pass on the importance of the celebration onto the younger generations.”
Event activities include a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, big wheel derby, classic car show, free food and raffle prizes, facepainting, DJ and street dance, young poet presentations, and an exhibit on the history of Double Dutch — a rope skipping game played when two ropes are turned in eggbeater fashion.
Prizes and giveaways are donated by Spreetail, We Can Do This, Hy-Vee, Pepsi-Cola, Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln, UnbeWingable, Norland Pure Water, Hiland Dairy and others.
