Lincoln Police have made announced an arrest in connection to a recent fatal multi-vehicle crash in southeast Lincoln.

Just after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 40-year-old Deeanna Deets of Lincoln was driving southbound on S. 84th Street near Glynoaks Drive when she swerved left, crossed the median, and collided head-on with a northbound vehicle.

The collision resulted in the death of the northbound driver, 49-year-old Amare Biftu of Lincoln. His passenger, a 45-year-old man from Rhode Island, sustained serious, critical injuries. Deets’ passenger, a 36-year-old Lincoln man, suffered minor injuries.

The impact of the crash caused the engine block of Biftu’s car to dislodge and strike a different vehicle, driven by a 43-year-old Lincoln man, who was unharmed. Additionally, a vehicle driven by a 76-year-old man from Roca, NE, collided with Deets’ vehicle, but the driver was uninjured.

Following her release from the hospital on June 19, Deets was arrested and booked into Lancaster County Jail. She faces charges of Motor Vehicle Homicide-DUI with a Prior Conviction for DUI, DUI Resulting in Serious Injury, Driving While Revoked, and an Interlock Violation.
