Lincoln Police say a Michigan man was arrested after firing shots outside a north Lincoln hotel early Tuesday morning. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says around 4:30 a.m. officers were sent to AmericInn near 27th and Whitehead Drive
A witness reported a man had driven up to the hotel, began shooting and then drove off. About the same time a vehicle matching the description officers received was seen near 27th and Old Dairy Road. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver took off. Thomas says a pursuit began near 20th and Superior where the vehicle reached speeds of 70 MPH in a 40 MPH zone.
The pursuit came to an end when the vehicle crashed into a roundabout at 14th and Superior. Officers took 28-year-old Michael Cornejo into custody. Inside the vehicle officers found a rifle and
nitrous oxide cans. At the hotel officers found multiple shell casings in the parking lot, bullet holes in the front glass of the lobby and markings where bullets hit the building.
Cornejo was taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked for two counts of attempted assault, two counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony and operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest.
