Lincoln Police are urging residents to be extra cautious when using the trail system. Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says two women were assaulted recently while using the Mopac Trail. The first incident happened around 6:00 p.m. June 7th when a 39-year-old woman was running on the Mopac Trail between 56th Street and Cotner Blvd.

“A man on a bicycle approached her, complimented her appearance and asked for her phone number,” Thomas says.  The woman refused and the suspect acted as if he was leaving but then
slapped her on her butt as he passed and then returned and did it again.

The second assault happened Thursday morning.  “A 25-year-old female victim reported she had been walking on Mopac Trail near N. 56th Street around 10 a.m. when a man on a
bicycle approached her, complimented her appearance and asked for her phone number,” Thomas says.

The woman refused and the suspect rode off, then returned and slapped her hard on her butt.  She described the suspect as a light-skinned Hispanic or Black male, 20-29
years old, 5’8″, approximately 160 pounds, with short, kinky black hair, wearing a white shirt and long dark pants.
