Within the vast cosmos, world-renowned astrophysicist and author Neil deGrasse Tyson will find himself in Nebraska on Earth Day 2025 to present his new program.
On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, Tyson will be present “The Cosmic Perspective” at Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30pm.
Tyson has spent years in academia contributing to the field of astrophysics, and served on a 2001 government commission on the future of the U.S. aerospace industry and on the 2004 Moon, Mars and Beyond commission. From 2006 to 2011, he hosted the television show NOVA ScienceNow on PBS, and in 2014, he hosted the television series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, a successor to Carl Sagan’s 1980 series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.
“He’s known for taking these really large, complex topics and making them so accessible and understandable and entertaining even,” Spokesperson for the Lied Center Lauren Silverman Durban told KLIN News. “He sells out talks around the country in the biggest cities. So the fact that he is choosing to be in Lincoln for Earth Day 2025 is a wonderful thing and we can’t wait to welcome him to the Lied Center.”
“The Cosmic Perspective” will illustrate our planet as just one point in a vast universe, who are we, why do we matter and how do we affect the space around us. Tyson often strikes an emotional chord when describing Earth as a small point in this vast system. Commemorating Earth Day, Tyson will also reflect on our role in sustainability and climate change.
Durban believes this will be the “Rock Star Astrophysicist’s” first time in Lincoln.
Tickets are be available immediately as part of Create Your Own Season packages. Single event tickets will be available later this summer.
