Excitement Builds for the 2024 Cornhusker State Games

By Chase Porter Jun 11, 2024 | 6:06 PM

As the 2024 Cornhusker State Games approach, excitement is mounting for Nebraska’s largest annual amateur sports event.

The festivities will kick off just outside Pinnacle Bank Arena at 7 p.m. on July 11, going through July 21. Dave Minarek, president of the Nebraska Sports Council, said this year will feature over 70 sports, with the inaugural introduction of wiffle ball.

“It’s all ages, all abilities, and it’s all about having some fun. And so there’s really something for everyone in the Cornhusker State Games,” Minarek told KLIN News.

This year’s torch bearers will be Husker athletic stars Josiah and Rebekah Allick.

With the games less a month away, preparations are in full swing. A key date to remember is June 19, the free shirt deadline.

“We’re celebrating the 40th anniversary, so I think our shirt looks fantastic and it’ll be a real good keepsake,” Minarek added.

Minarek also said they’re always in need of volunteers. You can sign up to volunteer by emailing info@nebraskasportscouncil.com, or call the Nebraska Sports Council Office at 402-471-2544.
