Sandhills Global Youth Complex Taking Shape

By Tom Stanton Jun 7, 2024 | 11:18 AM

By this time next year Lincoln will be hosting baseball and softball games at the new $27 million Sandhills Global Youth Complex at 1st and Cornhusker.  It will will be the first of its kind in the state of Nebraska where players of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can compete.

Jeff Maul with Visit Lincoln told LNK Today that progress is being made to make this dream a reality.  “We have put up darn near all the outfield fence polls, the Musco lighting is more or less up and where it needs to be,” Maul says.  “You see a lot of what really is coming together on each site and each field.”

Maul also says parking lot concrete will soon be going in on the southside of the complex and if all goes as planned, there could be turf on at least one of the fields by the first part of July.    The complex is being funded by public and private money.

It will be home to eight artificial turf fields. Five of the fields will be for youth baseball and softball and two will be baseball and softball stadiums for Nebraska Wesleyan University. The facility will also be home to a field for Homer’s Heroes.

It will be used by children with physical and intellectual disabilities.
