Lancaster County investigators have released more details in a Wednesday afternoon two-vehicle crash that killed one driver and seriously injured the second. It happened around 12:40 near SW 84th Street and West A Street, about three miles west of Lincoln.
Investigators say a 2011 Buick LaCrosse driven by 84-year-0ld Patricia Hieb of rural Lincoln was coming out of a private driveway along SW 84th Street. After entering the roadway Heib’s vehicle was struck by a southbound 2001 red Ford F250 driven by 49-year-old James Springer of Lincoln.
The collision pushed Heib’s vehicle into the west ditch as Springer’s vehicle rolled into the east ditch. Heib was extricated from her car and taken to a local hospital where she remains in critical but stable condition. Springer was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s department says alcohol and drugs use are not suspected to be factors. LSO says Heib was wearing a seatbelt and Springer was not properly restrained.
