Lincoln police will have extra eyes on “O” Street now through August 31. The annual traffic enforcement effort will take place on nights and weekends between 17th and
98th Streets.
“The project is in response to numerous reports and complaints of reckless driving, loud vehicles and deadly crashes on “O” Street,” says LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas. The overtime hours for the enforcement effort is funded by a grant through the Nebraska Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Office.
“In 2023, the project resulted in 662 traffic citations and 372 written warnings,” Thomas says. The results do not include citations written by on-duty personnel who combat poor
driving behavior on “O” Street throughout the year.
“LPD is dedicated to making our roads safer for our community and urges residents to follow speed limits and be considerate of others who share the road with you.”
