LSO Deputies Joining Nationwide Seat Belt Safety Campaign

By Tom Stanton May 21, 2024 | 4:20 PM

As we head into the summer driving season this weekend, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office will be taking part in the nationwide “Make It Click”  campaign to promote awareness and increase the use of seat belt and child restraint systems.

From May 22 through June 02 Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says they will be increasing the number of deputies who will be in marked patrol units looking for traffic safety violations, with a special emphasis on drivers and passengers who aren’t buckled up.

“In the evening time is usually when we end up doing it, from about 3:00 to midnight.”  Houchin says they have a sign-up list and deputies can take as many overtime hours as they would like.  Overtime for the additional deputies will be paid through a mini grant funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
