A staff member at the Reception and Treatment Center in Lincoln suffered a concussion after being assaulted by an inmate. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says it happened on May 1 when the staff member was escorting the inmate to his cell.
A spokesperson says while removing the leg restraint, the inmate kicked the staff member in the head and chest. The staff member received an initial medical examination after the incident and continues to be monitored by the medical provider.
Yesterday the staff member was diagnosed with a concussion. The incident is under investigation and the Lancaster County attorney will decide what charges to file. The NDCS disciplinary process will be utilized with sanctions, such as loss of good time, applied according to regulations.
