Man Arrested After Swinging Knife At LPD Officer

By Tom Stanton May 3, 2024 | 11:34 AM

A man is facing several charges after Lincoln Police say he pulled a knife on an officer Wednesday afternoon. Captain Todd Kocian says  says an officer made contact with 57-year-old Bradley Hester around 12:30 p.m. near 20th and D Street regarding his involvement in a previous vandalism case.

“As the officer made contact, Hester had his hand in his pocket and backed away. The officer informed Hester he was under arrest and grabbed his left arm,” Kocian says.  “Hester pulled away, turned his body then swung a folding style knife towards the officer.”

Kocian says the officer avoided the strike and both fell to the ground. “While on the ground Hester continued to lunge towards the officer.”   He says the officer was able to stand up, back away and successfully deploy his taser.

The officer sustained minor injuries to his hand, elbow and knees. Hester was booked for assault on an officer, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and resisting arrest while using a deadly weapon.
