14-Year-Old In Custody After Knife Attack At Lincoln High School

By Tom Stanton Apr 26, 2024 | 11:29 AM

Lincoln Police say a 14-year-old boy accused of using a knife to slash a fellow student during a fight at Lincoln High School Thursday afternoon has been taken into custody.  Captain Todd Kocian says the teen was referred for second degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

He was booked into the Youth detention Center.  LPD says the 14-year-old got into a fight with 15-year-old boy just after noon and pulled out a large serrated knife and slashed the other teen on his arm and chest.

Assistant Chief Jason Stille says a school administrator broke up the fight and the school resource officer provided first aid to the 14-year-old, who suffered a laceration to his hand.  “The 15-year-old ended up seeking treatment at an urgent care in the area.”

Both students were transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.   LPS Superintendent Dr. Paul Gausman says there were only a few students in the area where the fight happened and the school activated its Standard Response Protocol of Hold.

“A hold means that we hold students in their classrooms and out of the hallways while the staff members and police work to handle the situation.”  Gausman praised the staff for their response and the administrator who broke up the altercation.
