Nebraska State Patrol troopers took 18 impaired drivers off the roadways during a weekend campaign focused on drunk and drugged driving. NSP says one of the drivers was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.

“Impaired driving can take multiple forms,” says Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “Every time you get behind the wheel, you should be sober. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs endangers yourself and everyone else on the road.”

The enforcement campaign ran from Friday, April 19, through Sunday, April 21 and was made possible thanks in part to a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.

In addition to the 18 DUI arrests, troopers also cited 286 drivers for speeding, 26 for driving under suspension, 14 for having an open alcohol container and nine for not wearing seatbelts. “As the summer travel season approaches, now is the time to get into the safe driving mindset,” says Colonel Bolduc.

“Make your mind up now that you’ll always have a plan for a sober driver after summer parties, community events, and family gatherings.”
