Freeze Warning Issued for Lancaster County

By Chase Porter Apr 19, 2024 | 4:48 PM

National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for a large swath of Nebraska, including Lancaster County and surrounding parts of southeast Nebraska, from midnight tonight, April 19, through 8 a.m. Saturday, April 20.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 degrees are expected, sprawling outside the southeast portions of the state, to portions of central and northeast Nebraska.

NWS officials are advising the public to take precautions for the freeze, ask frost and cold conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold prior to midnight tonight, and disconnect garden hoses left outdoors.

Morning lows near or below freezing are expected through Sunday morning as well. Residents can expect additional freeze warnings/frost advisories throughout the weekend.
