How to Vote Early in Lancaster County

April 15th, 2024, the first votes were cast in the 2024 Primary Election for Lincoln-Lancaster County.

Early in-person voting for the May 14th primary began on Monday, and completed early mail-in ballots were likely delivered to the Lancaster County Election Office, as they arrived in voters mailboxes all last week.

Lancaster County voters who are interested can get a jump on their civic-duty by visiting the Election Office at 601 North 46th Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, to vote.

Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen reminds that Nebraska’s new voter ID law begins with this primary election. You will need to present one of the following forms of valid ID in order to receive a ballot:

  • Nebraska driver’s license
  • Nebraska state ID
  • U.S. passport
  • Military ID
  • Tribal ID
  • Hospital, assisted-living facility or nursing home record
  • Nebraska political subdivision ID (state, county, city, school, etc.)
  • Nebraska college or university ID (public or private)
  • *Or complete a reasonable impediment certification*

ID may be expired and does not need to include an address. For more information about Nebraska Voter ID requirements or to receive a free valid ID, visit sos.nebraska.gov.

Commissioner Wiltgen advises Lancaster County voters who have issues obtaining a valid photo ID should contact his office before Election Day. This will allow his staff the opportunity to assist voters resolve whatever challenges they may be experiencing.

2024 Primary Election Timeline:

  • April 29 – Last day to register to vote online (by midnight), at the DMV, at DHHS, at the Department of Education, via agent, via deputy registrar or by mail (voter registration application must be postmarked by April 29, 2024.)
  • May 3 – Last day to register to vote in person at the county election office (6 p.m. local time).
  • May 13 – Last day to vote in person at the county election office.
  • May 14 – Election Day AND last day county election offices will accept early voting ballots via mail or secure drop box.
