Seven People Rescued From Boat On Branched Oak Lake

By Tom Stanton Apr 15, 2024 | 11:38 AM

Several people had to be rescued after a boat on the north side of Branched Oak Lake began sinking around 8:30 Sunday night. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says sheriff’s deputies, Malcolm Fire and Rescue and Game and Parks responded to the call for help.

Houchin says the boat was taking on water and losing power.  He says the biggest concern was the fact there were five children between nine months and 15-years-old on board.  “Game and Parks was able to get to them.  Everyone was taken off safe and there were no injuries.”

The boat was towed back to shore.   Houchin praised the group for having life jackets for everyone on board.  “I’m sure there was a lot of concern at first, especially when you have little ones like that on board, but it turned out great.
