Lincoln Police have released results of their recent traffic enforcement project where officers monitored red light violations and drivers distracted by cellphones. From April 1 through 8 officers made 167 total traffic stops.
They issued a total of 191 citations and 59 warnings. Those citations included 39 for drivers who ran red lights and 52 for speeding. In addition 16 tickets were written for no seat belts and 25 more for a variety of traffic violations.
In 2023, the Lincoln Police Department investigated more than 1,780 crashes where it was reported that at least one driver operated a motor vehicle in an inattentive,
careless, negligent or erratic manner.
The project, funded by a grant from the DOT Highway Safety Office, assigned additional traffic enforcement officers at intersections with high crash rates during heavy traffic times.
