The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department is still sorting out the details after a man was struck by a semi on I-80 near Emerald early Saturday morning. “Once deputies got there, Star Care was summoned and transported 25-year-old Bryan Martinez to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition,” says Sheriff Terry Wagner.
“We’re still trying to figure out why he was walking on the interstate,” Wagner says. He says they found the vehicle driven by Martinez about a mile away from where he was struck. “We’re going to look at it and determine if it broke down, or exactly why.”
The driver of the semi has been identified as 62-year-old Alice Phillips from Colorado. No citations have been issued and the crash remains under investigation.
