After more than ten years of planning and developing the City of Lincoln now has a state-of-the-art cancer center. Bryan Health hosted a behind the scenes tour of the April Sampson Cancer Center near 40th and Saltillo Road on Wednesday.
The 140,000 square foot facility is the centerpiece of the new Bryan South Campus. Cancer Partners of Nebraska began seeing patients at in mid-March and Bryan’s services will be available to patients in mid-April.
In 2020 John Sampson, president of Sampson Construction, donated 29 acres of land for the facility. The center is named after his wife April, who died of breast cancer in 2016. In Nebraska, over 75,000 people require cancer care every year.
Bob Ravenscroft is the system vice president and chief marketing officer for Bryan Health and says the center offers advanced technology and treatment with a healing, comfortable environment. “The facility allows patients to experience cancer care under one roof and during one stop, improving upon a system that often involves multiple meetings with several specialists over the course of weeks.”
As part of the healing environment there are walking trails, a pond, large windows and a healing arts area. A ribbon cutting and public open house is scheduled for Saturday, April 13 from 1-4 p.m. with remarks from special guests, including Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook.
