Nebraska baseball has officially clinched the first league series of the 2024 campaign.
NU (19-5, 2-0 Big Ten) beat Northwestern (10-14, 0-2 Big Ten) 9-5 Saturday afternoon in Evanston. The Huskers have now won nine consecutive games.
It was early offense that put Nebraska up for good. Trailing 2-1 after the first inning, the Big Red exploded for seven runs in the second inning and never looked back.
Cole Evans led the Huskers with a 3-for-3 performance, hitting a home run and notching three RBI. Josh Caron’s lone hit on the day was a grand slam.
Will Walsh earned the win, pitching 3.1 innings in relief. Walsh gave up three runs, two of them earned, on five hits. Casey Dais pitched a spotless ninth inning to slam the door.
The series concludes Sunday at noon CDT at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.
