Wednesday morning’s mock tornado drill in Lancaster County went off “went off without a hitch,” officials say.

Lancaster County Emergency Management participated in a statewide tornado drill at 10:00 a.m. March 27, as a part of severe weather awareness week. Resident’s were encouraged to participate by refreshing themselves on their safety plans at home, school or at work during the drill.

KLIN News caught up with Director Jim Davidsaver who said right as he flipped the siren on he started receiving online participation reports from residents to his email.

“We’re still in the process of tabulating those. But as soon as the test started at 10:00 this morning, we started receiving those reports from schools, businesses, private individuals… everything ran very smoothly,” said Davidsaver.

The form is a simple fill-in-the-blank, which gives emergency management personnel an idea of the participation and whether the reporting party is a school, a healthcare facility, private citizen, etc.

“It really allows us to capture a lot of data to take a closer look at and ask, when we’re planning for the year, ‘What’s the best way to communicate with community residents throughout Lancaster county about the severe weather threats?’ This gives us a good place to start,” he said.

Anyone who would like to inform Emergency Management on their severe weather readiness plan can fill out the online form at lancaster.ne.gov.
