The outdoor warning sirens will sound throughout Lancaster County at 10:00 Wednesday morning as part of severe weather awareness week. Emergency Management Director Jim Davidsaver tells KLIN News a mock tornado drill will be conducted and he encourages people at home, school or at work to take time to review their safety plans.
“Even if you have a plan, refresh yourself on that. That’s why we call it a drill,” Davidsaver says. “You spend a couple of minutes today planning, that can pay huge benefits moving forward.” A good safety plan includes identifying your best shelter options when severe weather poses a threat. He says your plan should also include a location where all family members will report during severe weather.
He encourages everyone who practices their shelter plans for severe weather will fill out a submit their participation through a simple on-line form that is available by clicking here.
Davidsaver says having a NOAA all-hazards radio is an inexpensive investment that provides a significant measure of safety. “It will provide the best advanced notice of severe weather and promote seeking shelter in a timely manner.” He says everyone should include a quick check of the forecast in their daily routine to make sure they are aware of possibility of severe weather.
