Iowa Man Arrested After Road Rage Incident Near Lincoln

By Tom Stanton Mar 18, 2024 | 11:47 AM

An Iowa man is behind bars following a road rage incident on I-80 just west of 48th Street Sunday afternoon.  Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says they were called around 2:30 Sunday afternoon by a man who says another man driving a pickup pulling a trailer pulled a gun.

“The victim says he was side-by-side with the suspect who turned on the dome light, pointed the handgun straight up to the roof of the vehicle and then started to point in down towards him.”  Houchin says the Colorado driver hit the brakes and called 911.

Deputies found the pickup driven by 24-year-old Bryer McCoy a short time later.  “McCoy initially denied having a handgun in the vehicle, but eventually admitted it,” Houchin says. During a search of the truck deputies found a black .380 handgun in the back pocket of the driver’s seat.

McCoy was booked into the Lancaster County Jail for use of a weapon to commit a felony and cited for terroristic threats, carrying a concealed weapon and not disclosing and possession of marijuana less than one ounce.

Houchin says it’s not clear what led to the incident.  “We’re starting to hear more and more about these road rage incidents and people having weapons with them and sometimes making really dumb decisions.”
