Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews were called to Kinney Manufacturing near 35th and Gladstone around 7:30 Monday morning. Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says when crews arrived they found a fire inside a machine that collects metal dust shavings.
“The two types of metals that they use weren’t cleaned out completely,” Lierman says. “They started a chemical chain reaction that started a fire in the unit.” She says damage to the machine is estimated at $35,000.
There was no damage to the building and none of the employees were injured. Kinney is a contract metal fabrication company.
