Nebraska State Troopers took 35 impaired drivers off the road during this year’s NSAA State Basketball tournaments in Lincoln, thanks in part to a special enforcement effort including troopers across the state.

During the two weekends of state basketball, troopers arrested 35 people for driving under the influence. Troopers also stopped 38 drivers for speeding at 100 miles per hour or more. “As teams claimed state titles in Lincoln, our troopers and dispatchers were working diligently to keep fans safe as they traveled across the state,” says Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol.

“As travelers faced the additional challenge of a winter storm late last week, we’d like to thank everyone for doing their part to keep Nebraska safe.” In addition to the 35 people arrested for driving under the influence, troopers issued 612 speeding citations, 68 for driving under suspension, 17 for no seat belt, 12 for improper child restraint and 15 for  minor in possession.

Troopers also assisted 341 motorists who needed help on the road during the two weekends. The patrol says the enforcement effort was made possible thanks in part to grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office.
