Lincoln Police say a teenager crashed a stolen car early Tuesday morning and hopped into another stolen car before being arrested. Captain Todd Kocian says the passenger side tires of a Kia Soul that was found abandoned at 12th and Garfield were deflated.
“Officers were told a male wearing a light-colored hoody was observed leaving the scene,” Kocian says. “An officer in the area observed a white 2018 Kia Soul being driven by a male who matched the previous description provided to officers.”
Officers stopped the car driven by a 17-year-old boy. “Officers observed the steering column in the vehicle had been tampered with and the rear window was
shattered,” Kocian says.
Police say the first Kia Soul was stolen around 9:00 Monday night near 14th & Sumner Street. The grey 2019 Kia was stolen in the area of West ‘S’ Street and Surfside Drive after 6:30 p.m. Monday.
The 17-year-old was booked into the Youth Detention Center for two counts of theft by unlawful taking.
