The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department says they know the identity of the man whose body was found in Salt Creek near Waverly on Saturday.  LSO says 38-year-old Keath Jones was homeless and had ties to the Waverly area.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says Jones wasn’t reported as a missing person and his family had not seen him for about a month.  “A concerned family member did notify the sheriff’s office that the person in the creek may be Keath after hearing about the case,”  Houchin says.

That information helped the sheriff’s office identify Jones as quickly as they did.  ”Our hearts and prayers go out to the family,” Houchin says. The specific cause of death cause of death is still under investigation, but an autopsy found there were no signs of violence.

Houchin says the body had been in the water for two to four weeks and there was a chair and signs of a campfire in that area.  Last Saturday afternoon a landowner on a four-wheeler found the body down in the middle of the creek, which was down a steep ravine near 134th Street and Mill Road.
