Strong winds, low relative humidity and plenty of fuel for fire has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning from 1 pm to 7 pm today.

Strong Southwest winds 20 to 25 mph are forecast with gusts to 35 mph are expected.  Relative humidity is expected to be less than 20% this afternoon.  Any fires that develop could spread rapidly with these conditions and outdoor burning is discouraged.  Additional details from the NWS are available here3-11-23 NWS AM DssPacket

The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

* Affected Area…In Nebraska, Lancaster, Saline, Jefferson and Gage.

* Winds…Southwest 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

* Relative Humidity…As low as 19 percent.

* Impacts…Any fires that develop may spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
