Nebraska Democrats Announce Candidates for Lincoln/Lancaster County ’24 Primary Election

Less than 3 months away from the May 14th, 2024 primary election, Nebraska democrats have finalized their list of candidates to run for political offices in Lincoln/Lancaster County and greater Nebraska.

In time for the March 1st deadline, the Nebraska Democratic Party (NDP) have announced both democrat and non-partisan candidates for seats up and down the ballot; from resource districts and school boards, to U.S. House and State Senate.

However, with both of the state’s U.S. Senate seats up for election this year, NDP has only backed one candidate. Democrat Preston Love Jr. will run against incumbent republican Senator Pete Ricketts, and as of now, incumbent republican U.S. Senator Deb Fischer is facing no direct challenge from Nebraska Dems.

Fischer will still face a challenger. Political newcomer, independent candidate Dan Osborn is set up for a head-to-head with the veteran lawmaker running for her 3rd term.

“Nebraska voters will have a clear choice in November between a life-long politician who puts the interests of big government and special interests above the working people and a military veteran, steamfitter and industrial mechanic who is in the trenches fighting for working men and women,” Osborn said in response to NDP not filing a candidate against Fischer.

NDP Chair Jane Kleeb issues the following statement regarding the slate of 2024 candidates:

“Our diversity in candidates is a direct representation of Nebraskans from both rural and urban areas who are ready to bring working and middle-class perspectives to all offices in our government. We must come together to end the one-party rule in our state that stifles creativity, innovation, and accountability.”
