The city of Lincoln may need to brace for moderate rainfall amounts this week.

National Weather Service-Omaha Meteorologist Katie Gross tells KLIN News it looks like the best chance of rain this week is our Wednesday night, with a 20% chance of rain after 1am.

On Thursday rain will be more likely and widespread, mainly after 1pm, with a 70% chance of rain amounts between a 0.10-0.25 of an inch possible. “It looks like everybody should get a pretty good chance at some soaking rain,” said Gross.

Overnight on Thursday, the Lincoln area looking at an 80% chance of moderate rainfall between a 0.25-0.50 of an inch possible.

Gross said the city is still likely to be soaked though Friday morning before 7 am, with a 60% chance of rain betwee 0.10-0.25 of an inch possible. But by nighttime. that precipitation chance will diminish to 20%

Even though temperatures are expected to drop Thursday and Friday nights, Gross said Lincoln shouldn’t see any snowflakes break through, “The better chance of mixing with snow would probably be just to the north of Lincoln, closer to northeast Nebraska. So for the Lincoln area, we’re looking at just rain through the end of Friday,” she said. This weekend is looking pleasant, fortunately, with Saturday looking sunny, with light winds and highs near 51 degrees.

KLIN News asked if the short spurt in rainfall would help or eliminate recent dangerous fire conditions in the Lancaster County area. Gross said, “It’ll certainly help.”

“It probably won’t eliminate them completely for those couple of days, but for Thursday and Friday and maybe into Saturday, the rain should help mitigate dangerous fire conditions,” she added.
