Fire Destroys South Lincoln Home

By Chase Porter Feb 29, 2024 | 6:00 PM

Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews battled a large house fire Thursday afternoon near 27th and Hoy, just south of Yankee Hill Road.  LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived around 4:20.   She says it appears the fire started in an outdoor porch in the back of the house and spread rapidly due to the wind conditions.

The flames caught the siding on fire and quickly spread to the roof.   Four people in the home and a dog were able to make it out safely.  It took about an hour to bring the fire under control. Lierman says one firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The home was valued at $500,000 and damage to the contents is estimated at $300,000.  Two nearby homes also had siding and structural damage.  LFR crews remained on the scene until 2:00 Friday morning making sure there were no flare ups.
