A Lincoln homeowner was sitting in the living room near 3rd and Fairfield just before 11:00 Wednesday morning and noticed flames outside the front door. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says he evacuated out his back door and called 911.
“Crews arrived to find the front entryway and porch on fire with flames spreading to the soffits and siding on the garage,” Lierman says. Crews quickly knocked the fire down. She says the fire started in a large garbage tote that had sat near the porch next to the garage.
Investigators believe an improperly discarded cigarette sparked the fire. Damage to the home is estimated at $5,000.
