Lincoln Public Schools Security staff is investigating two rounds of ammunition that was found in Norwood Park Elementary School this week.

Principal Pam Hale sent a letter to parents of students Tuesday, Feb. 27th, asking for help in getting to the bottom of this incident. Two rounds of ammunition were found in the school — one on Monday (Feb. 26th) and another that day on Tuesday.

“There is a chance your child is not aware anything happened, but we want to provide you with information in case your child expressed concerns,” Principal Hale wrote. “We will continue to investigate until the student who brought the items is identified. If you or your student have any information that would help us in this investigation, please contact the school.”

Additionally, Hale asks parents to have a conversation with their children about items that are appropriate to bring to school. Ammunition’s of any kind is strictly prohibited and never allowed on school grounds.

“Students who have these items on school property will face appropriate school and legal consequences,” read the letter.

Lincoln Public Schools is also taking this opportunity to remind families the importance of keeping weapons and ammunition safely away from children and adolescents to prevent intentional and unintentional harm. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises that the most reliable and effective measure to prevent injuries in children and adolescents is an absence of weapons. Safe weapon storage reduces a child’s risk of injury.

Parents or students with safety concerns are encouraged to tell a trusted staff member, call Lincoln Police at (402) 441-6000, or use the green ‘Safe to Say’ button on the LPS website.
