Firefighters from four departments battled a large metal barn fire for several hours Monday night near Raymond. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the fire broke out around 7:15 p.m. near NW 37th and West Raymond Road.
“The owner called 911 after she smelled smoke inside her residence and her lights began to flicker.” Houchin says when she looked outside the barn was engulfed in flames. He says four ponies and two sheep were killed.
The barn was valued at $80,000. Houchin says the state fire marshal has determined the fire was caused by an electrical issue.
