The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says a 39-year-old woman out for a run Saturday morning southwest of Lincoln was attacked by five German Shepherds. It happened around 8:45 a.m. near 33rd and Pleasant Hill Road.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the dogs got through the fenced in yard and attacked the woman. “The dogs knocked her to the ground and were mauling her.”  Houchin says someone driving by honked to scare the dogs away and the owner was able to get them back to her property.

He says this was one of the most severe attacks he’s seen in 31 years.  “Puncture wounds to her face, neck, head and arms.  She told deputies she thought she was going to die.”  She was taken to a Lincoln hospital for surgery. The owner of the German shepherds was cited on suspicion of five counts of dog at large.

This was not the first time these same dogs have attacked someone.  Houchin says on December 17 a couple was walking near the woman’s property when the dogs surrounded them and bit one of them on the hand.

The dogs are now at the Capital Humane Society and Houchin says they are in the process of determining what they are going to do with the dogs.
