Record High Temperatures Possible Monday

By Tom Stanton Feb 26, 2024 | 8:35 AM

The mild winter weather has the potential to produce a record high temperature for February 26.  The afternoon high for Lincoln could reach 80 degrees.  If that happens it will break the previous high of 79 set back in in 1896.

But, National Weather Service meteorologist Becky Kern says there will be a brief return to winter weather by mid-week.  She tells KLIN News a cold front will move through the area on Tuesday morning. “We’re expecting gusty winds out of the northwest for Tuesday morning through the evening.  We could have some  gusts up to 45 miles per hour,” Kern says.

Kern says temperatures will still be in the 50’s by noon on Tuesday and then falling to around 30 by evening. “The wind chills with those cold temperatures are going to dip down into the single digits Tuesday night.”

That cold front will bring the chance of a brief round of snow overnight Tuesday with less than a half inch expected.  “By the time we wake up Wednesday morning, temperatures will be in the mid-teens and wind chills will be in the negative single digits.”

Once we get past Wednesday temperatures will rebound back into the 70s by this weekend.
