Lincoln Police arrested a car full of people after witnesses called 911 to report shots being fired in Wilderness Park around 5:30 Monday afternoon. LPD Captain Todd Kocian says one witness directed officers to where they thought the gunshots were coming from and three spent 9mm shell casings were found.
Kocian says witnesses reported seeing a group of males in the area where the gunshots were coming from leaving the park in a small red Honda. An officer saw the car traveling northbound on 1st Street from Old Cheney and conducted a traffic stop.
“Upon stopping the vehicle, officers discovered seven people inside,” Kocian says. “Following a probable cause search of the vehicle officers located open and closed containers of alcoholic beverages, narcotics paraphernalia and an unloaded 9mm handgun.”
Six adults ranging in age from 18-22 years of age were booked on gun, drug and alcohol charges. A 16-year-old was referred and released on several charges.
